Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I have the skip dropped?

A skip can be placed anywhere on private property, ideally a driveway or garden, but can be placed anywhere on your private property provided that the driver can access the location with the skip lorry. You may NOT move a skip when it has been placed, or you may cause damage which will incur additional fees or make it inaccessible to collect with the skip lorry. Always give clear instructions on booking or to the skip wagon driver when he arrives at your premises.

How big are the skips?

Our 4 yard skips are approx 7ft 7 in length, 5ft 2 in width and 3ft 4 in height.

Our 6 yard skips are approx 11ft in length, 5ft 7 in width and 3ft 3 in height.

Our 8 yard skips are approx 11ft 4 in length, 5ft 8 in width and 4ft in height.

Please ensure you have enough room width wise to allow for not only the bin but the lorry and
arms also to be able to access and safely unload and load the skip at your location.

Also be aware of height restrictions, ie overhead cables etc which may cause an issue, if we
can’t access safely, no refund will be given.

How much can I fit in the skip?

It’s tricky to say exactly how much waste can be fitted into each of our bins, as it depends on a lot of things like how the bin is stacked or what the waste is. When filling your skip, start with any heavy bulky waste first, laying them flat and working up from the bottom of the skip, saving any small, loose rubbish for the end. Items like chairs and tables produce a lot of void space, consider safely breaking down these items and other waste such as cardboard boxes to maximise the space in your skip.

Using the bin bag method, we say on average the 4 yard bin can take 30-40 bin bags, the 6 yard will be 50-60 bin bags and the 8 yard 60-80 bin bags, but this is just on average, it could be more or less again depending on waste.

Make sure your skip is level loaded once finished, this means the waste doesn’t pass the skip walls. The driver allocated to collect your skip will decline to take it should it be overloaded or unsafely loaded, and this will incur a return fee should we have to come back to re-collect.

How long can I keep the skip for?

Your skip hire period is for 2 weeks as a standard. Your collection date will be 2 weeks from the date you have it delivered. We can come and collect before this date if you give us a call or email and we can arrange for collection to be moved forward.

If we don’t hear from you, it will be automatically collected on the 2 weeks date or shortly after depending on bank holidays etc, whether it be full or not.

Can I have it dropped on the road?

Unfortunately we are unable to drop skips on the highway, road or public areas. If you want to place your skip on public land (i.e. the road or pathway) you will require a permit from your Local Authority and we don’t currently offer this service.

What can I put in the skip?

Skips are for the removal of non-hazardous waste such as building debris, household items and green waste etc. We will accept any solid, non-hazardous waste. This means we cannot take the following items: Asbestos, Gas bottles, fluids, lead-acid batteries, fridges and freezers, fluorescent tubes, clinical waste.

Mattresses, Sofas/armchairs and Tyres are accepted but are an additional cost which must be pre booked when hiring the skip.

Plasterboard must not be placed in a general waste skip, pre-booked plasterboard only skips are the only way we can take plasterboard.

All general household, commercial and garden wastes other than these are acceptable.

What can’t I put in the skip?

We do not accept any Hazardous waste in our skips. We cannot take the following items:

Asbestos, Gas bottles, fluids, lead-acid batteries, fridges and freezers, fluorescent tubes, Clinical waste.

Mattresses, Sofas/armchairs and Tyres are accepted but are an additional cost which must be pre booked when hiring the skip.

Plasterboard must not be placed in a general waste skip, pre-booked plasterboard only skips is the only way we can take plasterboard.

What about Plasterboard?

In 2009 a change to regulations dictating how we dispose of plasterboard was implemented, this means the disposal of gypsum which is the main raw material of plasterboard could no longer be mixed with biodegradable waste.

Plasterboard is only permitted in the Plasterboard Only Skip hire option on booking.

How much can I fill the skip?

By law you MUST NOT overfill your skip. To ensure the skip is safe to transport, you must ensure that it is not filled past the top of the sides. Overfilled skips will not be taken under any circumstances and may incur extra charges

We deliver Monday to Friday 8am-4pm. We do not deliver or collect on weekends or bank holidays.

We will always do our best to deliver to your preference of either AM or PM but sometimes this is not possible due to things beyond our control, like traffic or vehicle issues, should these issues arise, we will always do our best to let you know as soon as possible.

It’s not possible to choose a exact delivery time at the moment, but we will always try and achieve your preference of AM (8:30-12) or PM (12:30-4).

What happens to my waste?

Your waste will be processed at our authorised and permitted treatment facility, in full compliance with all UK and EU legislation. We always try to limit the amount of waste that goes to landfill in accordance with the UK Waste Hierarchy, this method is made up of five steps:
reducing waste at the source, reuse of materials, recycling, energy recovery, and landfilling as the last resort.

Fires or Theft

Our skips must NEVER be used for fires. Should we see any evidence of this, a fine will be issued and costs of the bin repair/remake will be charged to the hirer. If the theft of a bin occurs, the hirer will be liable for the cost of replacement of the bin.
